About Singapore

Singapore is a multiracial, multireligious city-state with a residential population of 5.5 million. A former British colony, Singapore became an independent country in 1965. Over the past 50 years, the island has steadily transformed itself into a highly developed economy with the world’s second-busiest port. Beneath the façade of modern high-rise buildings is a rich tapestry of traditions and vibrant cultures that make your visit to Singapore a unique and memorable experience.

Getting Around Singapore

You’ll find it relatively easy to travel around Singapore. The city-state’s public transport system is reliable, and a number of its major tourist attractions is conveniently located near the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) or subway stations.

Singapore Bus Service (SBS) and Singapore Mass Rapid Transport (SMRT) operate the bus and train services in Singapore. You can check out the travel maps, schedules, and fares at SBS’ and SMRT’s websites.

Taxis are also reasonably priced. A 30-minute trip from Changi Airport to the city centre costs between SGD25 to SGD40, depending on whether peak hour surcharges apply.
